Horn Gábor

Horn Gábor graduated from Marx Károly University of Economical Science in 1980 (now: Corvinus University) with a teacher of economics degree. In his early years studying at the University, he was a part of the Rajk László College for Advanced Studies in Social Theory, then the Social Theory College for Advanced Studies too. For ten years he was teaching political economics and finances, then he took part in forming the Polytechnic of Economics – until 2002, he worked as the pedagogical leader of the institution.

Around the fall of communism in Hungary, he became an important figure in the trade union movement: in 1988 he was one of the founders of the Teachers Democratic Trade Union, in the next year he took part in working with the Democratic League of Independent Trade Union as well. For five years he was leading and coordinating the educational programme of the Soros Foundation.

After the fall of the regime change, he joined the political party Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ), which he then became the representative of in the Hungarian Parliament from 1994. From 2002 until 2009, he was the campaign manager of the party. From 2002 until 2008, he worked as Minister of State for coordination in the Prime Minister’s Office.
