Invitaton: Budapest between hell and high water

Republikon Intézet

Following the municipal elections in June, a new situation has emerged in Budapest. Gergely Karácsony remained mayor, but the stable opposition majority that had previously supported him disappeared. With the rise of the Tisza Party, the balance of power in the capital has also changed, with the work of the Assembly being characterised by more intense debates than before. Has Budapest become the island of democracy in Hungary? Is it possible to run a city from a minority? Will the heated debates between the government and the Budapest administration continue? These are some of the questions we will be seeking answers to at Republikon Institute's annual autumn roundtable discussion on local government.
