After the European Parliament elections, political movements have not slowed down, and the balance of power has changed in Hungary and in Europe. While the liberal Renew EU party family lost almost a quarter of its members, the newly formed right-wing Eurosceptic Patriots for Europe, composed mainly of ID members, became the strongest party alliance in the Hamrad party. The upcoming event of Republikon Institute in September will focus on the domestic and international aspects of these political changes.
The international panel will focus on the situation of liberals and liberalism in the European Union (and in the countries of the invited foreign guests) after Renew's recent decline in the number of seats in the EP for the next five-year term, but will also look at what the biggest challenges for liberals could be between now and 2029.
The focus of the domestic panel will be on how the elections (and what has happened since) have affected Hungary and Hungarian political parties in Europe: what are the ambitions of Viktor Orbán and Fidesz at European level, and how far will the creation of the Patriots' Group help them? What can we expect from the Tisza party representatives in the EPP and what can they expect from their European presence? What can Hungary expect from the new Commission, and what can the EU expect from Hungary in the light of the changed domestic political power relations?
