Democratic control, transparency, and impartiality in the operation of public service media are key to a free public sphere and informed decision-making by voters. The joint monitoring report by the Republikon Institute and Connect Europe, which is the first half-yearly report of a one-year project, for the period February-July 2025, attempts to evaluate, with supporting data, the balance of public media news coverage, particularly with regard to M1's evening news program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. The aim of the research is to explore whether public media complies with the independence and pluralism requirements set out in the relevant domestic and EU regulations.
