What's not on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok doesn't even exist - so the saying goes. But we are, and if we're not careful, we can spend hours a day on social media. Social media is where we keep in touch with people we know and don't know, where we get our information from, where we follow campaigns and where we send those we disagree with to warmer climates. Where the most important rule is that there are hardly any rules. There are few things that have changed our lives this much in the past few decades, which is why we decided to organise a two-part conference on social media.
In the first panel discussion, we will look at how social media affects our lives, what dangers it poses and how we can use the sites that are so important in our everyday lives - and which are increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence - in a smart, useful and even healthy way.
In the second part of our conference, we will discuss the impact of social media on politics and people's values. Our invited guests will be asked about the role of online social space in politics, its impact on different values, communities and rights. We also want to know how the use of social media in politics has changed in recent years, whether it can be abused, whether it can be restricted and whether it is worth restricting at all.
